6th Grade
Welcome to 6th Grade!
Welcome to the Sixth Grade web page! My name is Jen Fogelson. I am the Sixth Grade Homeroom teacher at St. John Vianney School.
Throughout the Sixth Grade year, the students will be busy learning many new and exciting concepts. In Religion, we will attend Masses every Wednesday and lead Mass several times throughout the year. We will gather as a school twice a year to pray the Rosary together. We also help the Kindergarten class during Mass, as their Mass Partner. We continue to get together with them throughout the year to do different activities. Along with Mass, we learn about the Sacraments, God’s Commandments, and the Fruits of the Holy Spirit, just to name a few. We also learn how to respect the rights and needs of others as God has taught us. In our Science Curriculum, we will learn about the planets, the Periodic Table, stars, genetics, the human organ systems, and many other interesting topics. We learn many of these topics through different projects or speeches. In our Language Arts Curriculum, we are busy reading stories and analyzing them, learning the weekly spelling words, going over the parts of speech and how to use them in writing. In Art Class, we will use many different types of media to create wonderful works of art. We will also have a chance to use clay to create interesting works of art.
Throughout the year, the Sixth Grade class will have the experience of trying out to be in the local Spelling Bee held at SJV School and participating in our local Science Fair. We will also have the opportunity to go on many different field trips throughout the year such as Rendezvous Days, The Young Writers Conference, the Capitol, and some plays at the Opera House in Fairmont. The final field trip that students will take, prior to graduating, is going to Eagle Bluff for three days. This is an awesome experience where the class will grow closer and learn to work better together, due to the different classes that they participate in during their stay.
