3rd Grade
Welcome to 3rd Grade!
My name is Sarah Schiltz, and I’m happy to be the teacher of the St. John Vianney third grade team! Our team works together to create a safe and caring classroom.
An important aspect of our classroom is following the teachings of Jesus. Topics in religion include the lives of Jesus, Mary, and the Saints, the sacraments, the Holy Trinity, and the seasons of the church year. Students take part in Masses and prayer services. Throughout Advent and Lent, we read about people who prepared the way for Jesus and focus on the Stations of the Cross. We plan the May Crowning Mass to honor Mary.
A valuable part of our day is our team meeting to discuss our goals for the days. Math concepts we work with include place value, addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, geometry, measurement, and problem solving. In reading and language arts, students expand their grammar, phonics and vocabulary abilities, analyze a variety of story genres, and write using different formats. Communities is our focus in social studies. Science topics include classification of living things, weather, matter, and energy. We use our Smartboard and Ipads to enhance learning. The team takes part in enjoyable activities including art projects, book activities, class projects, our school marathon, and Catholic Schools Week.
The SJV third year is a time of faith, social, and academic development. Join us at Saint John Vianney School in Fairmont, MN!
